Celebrating Nike 2016 Air Max day, the team at www.millingtonassociates.com have delivered this absolutely spectacular scheme at the fantastic Niketown here in central London.  The campaign revolved around Nike three Air Max designers Tinker Hatfield, Hiroshi Fujiwara and Mark Parker; each designer was responsible for launching a new Air Max zero shoe model.
In addition to the window scheme (image below), this installation involved the complete takeover of the ground floor space at Niketown and its transformation into a brightly coloured factory environment with multiple moving and interactive parts.   Further attractions were a Jason Markk sneaker cleaning service, and a static conveyor belt spiralling upwards to the ceiling in the impact zone to showcase the private Air Max collection of renowned collector Stevey Ryder.  Just staggering what these guys are doing right now.

Including Wembley here is a new one for us and if you love football then this is one for you.  In collaboration with Nike, www.millingtonassociates.com have recently designed a one-day press space to launch the latest kit for the England football team.  The incorporation of Nike's flyknit technology also makes this the most advanced kit to date.  The team at www.millingtonassociates.com created the visual effect of speed with shooting lines, chasing lights and thread patterns to unite the garments and installation.  Stunning stuff.

Nike @ Liberty, London

Its been so difficult this week to find interesting schemes as just about everyone is in Sale right now and have their windows blanked out so their is nothing to view.  Anyway, thankfully we have found some hidden gems such as this collaboration between Liberty and Nike; Pixel Pack.  We've also noticed that Hermes have a fantastic scheme right now so we will include them too this week in conjunction with some other interesting 'bits' until we pass this drab part of the retail calender.

Nike, London

We're not massive fans of this brand and its mega-superstructure-stores although we do pop in intermittently to have a look at what they are up to, and hands up they do some amazing work and we love this graphic in their windows.  This is so simple and just works so well, don't you think?

Nike, Beijing

Sports, and in particular, the Olympics appear to be taken very seriously here in Beijing, and judging by the windows at Nike on the Wangfujing, with its army of mannequins, all rather powerful too.  The lighting along this street is so bright that even at night time it appears as if its day time; well London day time at least.  Huge video walls and flashing lights make this area very alluring and exciting to be a part of; at least for a while.

Nike, SoHo, New York

Have you seen this Nike 'concept' store down town?  Isn't this cool and who would have thought it was Nike of all places?  We're not huge fans of Nike ourselves.  We still haven't got over Naomi Klein's book, No Logo - but that's our issue.  Anyway, what a fabulous concept and incredible merchandise too.  OK, well it still has that annoying tick symbol on everything, so we wont be buying any of it, but the Japanese-styled stuff really does look great.

Nike, London

I usually have to drag any enthusiasm out of myself when I look at large corporate brands' concepts, although I have to say I really do quite like the scheme at Nike here in London at their Covent Garden store.  This nostalgic scheme created from fencing reminiscent of a sports court, vintage and contemporary product images and white neon lighting in the form of historical dates really is so incredibly simple and so different from their flag ship store at Oxford Circus.  The difference of course is possibly because the sites fall in different boroughs in London?  The Oxford Circus site of course is within in the jurisdiction of Westminster council and I know from my experience from placing neon lighting in a store window a long time ago in this borough that it didn't last very long once the local authority had their say.  One only has to look at the Bronze lettering uniformly placed above every store along Regent street to see the level of control that's in place here.   This site falls within the London borough of Camden so probably a little more relaxed in allowing creativity to flourish.  Who knows?  Ultimately, great scheme guys.

Nike, London

I rarely look at Nike here in London.  Its not that these guys don't do anything interesting although I just think its one of those stores that I seem to inadvertently pass by on my way to somewhere else.  However, although this scheme is nearly on its way out, I did think that it was worth recording and showing to you as the use of these light boxes and the narrative it contains was quite worthy.  Anyway, these guys are up for an award next week within the Visual Merchandising industry here in the UK.  As most of the big glamorous retailers nearly always get the awards (and in so many cases justifiably so), I also feel that it was about time that the unknown guys (at least to me) here at Nike got some recognition and encouragement too.  The team here got one of my votes, so fingers crossed and good luck guys.
