Collaborations are clearly de rigueur and right now John Smedley and the British born painter Doris A. Day have produced this incredible collection based on the theme the 'Artistry of Knit' using the highest quality fabric paints on some of the worlds finest knitwear.  The scheme produced by Tenn Ltd is a vibrant, clean and contemporary installation reflecting the post modern period with its dripping paint tins to reflect Day's work.  Check out this brands scheme either along Jermyn or Brooke street.

If you havent checked out this brands' website recently then do take a moment to click through some of the images and videos as everything has been beautifully produced and the detail of the aesthetic is superb.  We love the products at this brand and great to know that at least some manufacturing in the UK still exists.  The windows here have a kind of industrial feel to them with the use of the 'concrete' blocks and links very nicely with the mood of their website.

We do love the dip dyed effect we're seeing in fashion right now.  We've actually seen this trend at Burberry recently too which looks amazing.  Here at John Smedley (clearly the Guru of all things Knitted) has the Compass In Indigo piece in their window all of which have been hand dyed and therefore making each piece unique.  We're not sure we would pay the prices commanded by this brand for knitwear although each piece is superb but with busy lives we just need to wash and go rather than (probably) dry clean each time.  Still it looks great and the product is amazing.  Great abstract installation supporting this presentation too.

You know that Christmas is getting nearer when we're talking about sweaters.  Here at John Smedley of course this is the king of knitwear.  With its rotating mannequin in a gravitational format surrounded by a woolly panelled cave created from 10kg / 200 metres of their finest Merino wool we just want to step into the window, wrap up and be snuggled.

For such a tiny store this brand really make a big effort which is always enormously appreciated.  What you cant appreciate in a still image is that the circular disc behind the bust form actually rotates.  With Valentines Day approaching, schemes for the season are coming thick and fast and great to see these guys ahead of the game.

John, Smedley, London

We haven't been passed the John Smedley store in absolutely ages although we were drawn in to view this one while walking up towards South Molten street.  Here we have the product placed in these larger screw topped jars and placed in a repetition format.  Just a bit of fun.  Do they sell them this way?

Wow, we love this new scheme at John Smedley right now.  We have a few of these lenses in our office which naturally have amused us for hours on end (we'll leave the rest to your creative imaginations).  Of course here, the guys have been very sensible and using them far more creatively, onto which text has been placed referencing the various qualities of the product and brand.  We probably would have placed images with a much stronger print finish behind the lenses as the ones here are quite hard to view, although this may possibly be deliberate, who knows?  But anyway, although this is such a tiny space, we're seeing some regular excellent quality creative input at this brand which is always a pleasure to view.  Great one guys..!

John Smedley, London

Tucked away and working quite quietly, John Smedley never ceases to amuse us and often impresses us.  Their tiny store in central London have this equally tiny window where they always seem to manage to implement such interesting and/or fun schemes.  Here the brand have installed a variety  of spools of thread in a horizontal repetition format in delicious tones set against a White background.  The vinyl placed on the fenestration announces the arrival of Spring 2011.  We love the colour also, but could someone do something about the weather too, to match it?

Earlier this year we saw the 'handmade' trend filtering through store windows.  With this trend we also saw the return towards and the rediscovery of fading skills such as knitting, crotchet, and embroidery. Sales of sewing machines were on the up and of course the incredible quilts seen both at Liberty and the Victoria and Albert Museum were just some of the delights delivered for our perusal.  I've been watching the schemes here at John Smedley for a while now as they have been doing some really interesting stuff.  The windows don't change very often and the space they have is significantly minute for a central London space, however we have seen some really interesting schemes happening here.  The latest installation has included the tiniest handmade figures and narrative scheme.  I adore the 1980's references to David Bowie and the the style of the figures.  Great fun, it drew me in, job done.

John Smedley, London

I don't normally photograph John Smedley as they always seem to either be in Sale or just seem to sell samples, however the store here in Central London on this occasion, the team here have produced something which I believe the creative team at Paul Smith would be proud of. Merchandise has been hung as if being blown by the strategically placed fans. These windows are great fun, and while this is not the most original scheme (I have seen this countless times as its recorded in just about every 1st edition window display publication I own covering the 20th Century). However, I am actually pleased that they are producing at least a creative scheme in this store. Please keep them coming team and I will certainly be making a bee line down to the store on a regular basis to record them.
