Marc Jacobs, London

You may remember that this brand had a store along Mount street which is not far from this Regent street store although the footfall here is enormous by comparison.  They have previously produced some interesting schemes although there is the Lagerfeld store across the road and right now they almost reflect each other with their schemes.  We understand the global hardships but lets inject a bit of London in here, eh?

Marc Jacobs, London

We've slightly exhausted whats happening here in London at the moment although hopefully retailers will snap out of Sale very soon so that we can extend the types of brands we tend to look at (we usually include a lot of luxury brands as they are the ones who are usually doing something).  In the meantime here's some images from the Marc Jacobs store along Mount street. Not very exciting we know although this is what is happening.  We're on our way to Miami to check out the retailers there and will post what we find from tomorrow.

Marc Jacobs. London

If you have seen the drawings of the 'faces' from this brands AW16 collection on social media then you will know how well this scheme ties into their launch.  The strap line here is Mrs. Peregine's Home for Peculiar Children and the story of Jacob who discovers clues to a mystery that stretches across time.  You will have to see the film yourself of course to find out more.

Marc Jacobs, London

The windows here at Marc Jacobs are looking quite dramatic at the moment with their vinyl naive drawings applied to the fenestration.  The drawings of course link to his latest offering with Tabboo! prints; moody prints and hand painted creatures.  As with most open backed window spaces the internal schemes tend to be quite simple, allowing the viewers eye into and around the interior.

Marc Jacobs, Harrods, London

If you have been passed Harrods recently then no doubt you would have come across this promotional scheme across several of their windows.  A kind of land of the giants installation with Bull Terriers in a repetition format and out sized lipstick, mascara and other beauty products this scheme is both enormously fun and impeccably produced for Marc Jacobs and this iconic luxury brand store.

Marc Jacobs, New York

There appear to be quite a few Marc Jacobs stores here in New York although our favourite has to be this one along Bleecker street.  Really friendly and helpful staff and great installation in their windows with an equally interesting interior space.  Our favourite bit has to be the wall of convex mirrors (not in view in these images).  This time last year we saw a similar collaboration between Disney and luxury brands although it still seems an odd choice to us?

Marc Jacobs, London

We did try very hard to like this scheme (not that it matters whether we do or not) however we saw the use of wooden step ladders in windows two years ago and lets not even go there with 'bits' of mannequins.  Hybridised mannequins just don't work too as the figures themselves are usually not designed to be put into certain positions other than for which they were originally intended but it is something which we find particularly inexperienced Visual Merchandisers occasionally try to do and it just looks awful.  With a brand as significant as this, surely there is a budget to find human-ish arm props if they are going to be used at all?  There is quite a sinister tone to this scheme and Cluedo-esque vibe which we actually quite enjoyed, so it didn't take Agatha Crusty or Hercule Columbo to guess that the murderer was Ms. Scarlet in the study with the rope.  If she had been swinging from the rope (although God forbid) we would at least have raised a well manicured eyebrow and maybe a little gasp.  Have a look at our video to get a better overview although if you are in the office maybe turn the sound down a little.  The external alarm at the store was ringing when we visited.  Possibly a cry for help.

Marc Jacobs, London

We normally adore what Marc Jacobs does particularly in his New York stores which are filled with humour and clever presentations.  This scheme along Mount street here in London is quite disappointing however.  A Pink / Lilac (?) door complete with suspended window frame and a gravelly floor is presented in conjunction a with mannequin and dodgy wig.  The merchandise is superb as always of course although the concept here doesn't really entice us in to take a closer look.

Marc Jacobs, New York

We always make a bee line for this Marc Jacobs store as they always have such fun installations.  Previously we have seen these windows covered in Polaroids of people with a Santa Claus and this year we have the Marc Jacobs Galactic Industries Communications Operating systems where just in case you couldn't make it back for Christmas you could have your photograph taken here to send to your home planet.  Perfect fun and a great form of experiential interaction.

Marc Jacobs / Louis Vuitton Exhibition, Paris

Wow, if you happen to be in Paris soon, then you must go and see the LVMJ exhibition here.  The exhibition, a combination of Marc Jacobs and in part a history of Louis Vuitton, the most incredible creativity oozes from these display cabinets.  What is particularly interesting is that not only do we see the finished product but also the development of some of it.  This fascinates us.  Don't forget to book in advance though, the crowds are still flocking so be advised to book your time slot before you go.

Marc Jacobs, Las Vegas

Its always a pleasure to view fun schemes with a narrative of some kind behind them, don't you think?  Here at Marc Jacobs at the Forum (Caesar's resort) it was refreshing to view such little merchandise (confident retailer an' all that) with a kind of Treasure Island narrative.  One mannequin on a tiny sandy island complete with treasure chest and handbag lost to a shark.  With that much treasure, why worry, just buy another load of them, eh?

Marc Jacobs, New York

Having flaneured the city for days already collecting and gathering my visual resources I came across the Marc Jacobs scheme here on Bleeker st. I have no connection to this cause but it certainly seems a very worthy one. I believe one can have a photograph taken for a small donation to save the life of Alice and her son Billy. The images themselves then form part of the installation. What I find so wonderful about this scheme beside the cause is the the concept itself and the interaction between customer and retailer. Again this is a fantastic localised example of creativity which I really wish some of the major players out there, in here, somewhere or just elsewhere would follow. Of course this does rely on having creative's available to do this, but in this global recession it seems that they are the first people to lose their jobs. Anyway, in the mean time, go on, swing by the store on Bleeker st. and give your donation before the 24th December.
