Urban Outfitters, London

We hadn't immediately noticed that the latest scheme at Urban Outfitters is a bit of a nod to the Olympics with the use of the coloured banners and positioning of the bust forms, however this is quite a subtle nod perhaps only easily recognised in retrospect and in a photograph.  We aren't too keen on their bust forms however; presentation with shoes underneath does the products no favours whatsoever and if you have forms with articulated arms, why not use them to give the window a bit of character and narrative?

Urban Outfitters, London

As cost effective schemes go Urban Outfitters really do get it so right.  With the use of large boards, clips and large format graphics, they really do put the Urban in the Urban Outfitters brand name.  Ever so inexpensive and yet works so very well.

Urban Outfitters, New York

We could resist but capture these amazing installations at Urban Outfitters.  We're loving all of these market-style finds.....gorgeous clear crystal glassware suspended like a contemporary chandelier and these gates wrapped in wool.  It looked stunning seeing this store.....just wish the merchandise for males wasn't just like every other brand on the high street.  Ah well, still, the store looks really cool.

Urban Outfitters, London

We really quite like the latest scheme from Urban Outfitters in the old C&A store site.  Although it is a little chaotic looking at it when one analyses static images however it does actually work really rather well on the high street and certainly grabbed us long enough to stop and record these for you.  Oddly the actual Urban Outfitters illuminated signage looks a little dated next to the painted signage on the fenestration, don't you think?  On a side note, and just a little snippet of information which you may be of interest.  Just underneath these windows, running directly right across the road to Ms. Selfridge opposite is a huge underground tunnel.  Quite why its there we're not sure, although possibly it was linked to the underground bomb shelter that used to be in the basement of Topshop and it no doubt has been covered up by each of the stores. Although we do remember, during pre-Internet and digital camera days enormous locked iron doors with a tiny spy hole in them where we could shout to the staff in the stockroom at the then C&A store to break up the long hours working in a huge retail store.

Urban Outfitters, New York

I do enjoy going to view this brand on occasions.  Not every occasion however, as it always feels like a very unfriendly brand (unlike its gorgeous sister Anthropologie, but then they don't do menswear, so whats the use?).  I've taken these images almost in a two or one finger(s) up (depending on where you are reading this) to the brand.  Maybe that's what they want that?  Anyway, I do love to go and have a look nonetheless and see what these guys are doing as I do enjoy their commercial spaces and the visual interest that they create.  The merchandise however is the usual club wear so give me All Saints any day.  How many knitted hats, tea shirts, Far-Eastern-manufactured-looking-gimmicky-products and pairs of straight leg jeans does someone actually want, right?  And and the stuff is hardly massluxe even if the price tag is.  But anyway, I love the creative and clubby atmosphere.  If that's what Urban Outfitters want.....that's what they've got.  But, pseudo brand heritage?  Oh who cares......I only ever just go and look and never spend money here anyway, do you?
