Roberto Cavalli, London

Photographing video screens clearly isn't our forte.  That said, we have seen a trend towards using these kinds of screens across several luxury brands although thankfully it was just a phase and not a replacement for some good old fashioned product handling, interesting narratives and fantastic installations.  We're not a fan of video screens ourselves (its quite a lazy option we feel) although we guess we will see more and more of these types of schemes sadly as we continue to roll through the 21st Century.

Theres quite a market stall feel to this installation, don't you think?  This appears to be where the brand is headed with their more urban approach to their schemes. (you may also remember their recent Rock 'n' Roll installation).  Perhaps this is their new USP?  We are actually thankful that they have finally found an angle to work from as the windows here have been quite generic for some time now.  We're not big fans of fluorescent (our eyes are rolling) so we haven't quite decided how we feel about this scheme.

There's not really a lot we can say about this scheme apart from the fact they appear to be recycling the fixtures but changing the background colour and of course the merchandise.  We are slightly struggling with the recycling element in store windows as while we understand the need to be sustainable but we also want to see something fresh and new.  Perhaps they could have rotated this scheme later in the year or changed it more?

This is possibly not the most exciting scheme we've seen at this brand although we do love the collision of the patterned backdrop with the animal print product.  Besides the fixtures there is not a lot else to mention here as the scheme is rather starved of any creativity at the moment sadly.

There's a bit of a roadie vibe happening at this store along Sloane street although we suspect it might be referencing the designers long history of working with some of the Hollywood greats.  Flight cases (the kind you usually see in the preparation for a rock concert), T-shirts in frames as well as the product itself fill the windows here.  We're not sure if there is a bigger meaning or at least a reference here although their website makes no connection to the scheme so your guess is as good as ours.

We've included a lot of references to digital technology recently.  Some good and some, well, we will let you decide what you think.  Of course, technology, when used well can be a good 'thing' to do although, pandemic aside (we realised that these types of installations are a quick fix in some instances), the creative element really does seem to slide and all we're actually left with is just another large format graphic albeit in a different format.  We can only hope that brands continue to invest in their Visual Merchandisers, see and understand the value they bring to the business and bring back that much needed creative element once again.

There isn't a lot to comment on in this scheme as it is rather lacking in Visual Merchandising at the moment apart from a few mirrored plinths.  We don't agree with the fur being placed in the window or actually being sold however and this is something we do have to mention.  Sadly the brand have very much misjudged the London crowd with products such as this.

We don't always see the greatest amount for creativity from this brand although they do implement schemes in their windows nonetheless.  Currently, at their store along Sloane street here in London the brand have installed a series of shaped mirrors in a repetition format.

We don't normally like what this brand do (not that it matters in the slightest) although so many of these  types of luxe brands usually produce quite vulgar schemes.  We have noticed that the mid-range brands are currently challenging the norms and actually in many cases leading the trends closely followed by luxury brands.  This seems to challenge Rogers theory of Diffusion somewhat as the normal process is that luxury brands are supposed to be the innovators.  However, times are clearly changing and the mid range brands appear to be leading the way although as anyone can purchase trend information this is no surprise.  Although it does seem odd.  Naturally this brand appeals to a certain market so we have to accept this scheme whether we like it or not and we do recognise that it is easy to criticise when we don't have to come up with a solution ourselves.  Their latest scheme is rather more commercial we felt with their port hole-style scheme or repetition of radiating forms punctuating a vertical plane.  Whichever way you look at it or feel about it, it is of course beautifully produced.

There is a certain sort of vulgarity that some luxury brands appear to project from their windows although we are getting to the point where we actually quite like it.  OK there is no significant innovation here but we do actually like the references to exotica with the large Golden leaves.  Apart from that there isn't much else here but then if you are Cavalli we guess there is no need to push for sales?

We were a little surprised that we haven't included this brand before now.  Bizarre, eh?  This may possibly be due to the fact that the brand rarely do anything interesting.  But look at this little gem.  We've always seen this brand in the same light as Cardin; i.e. over done and not very interesting, although the original work from both brands was incredibly exciting.  Anyway, we screeched to a halt when we saw this scheme.  We are not massive fans of the easy solution large format graphic but we love this one.  Just look at this colour Red, just stunning and the merchandise is to die for; delicious.
