Hackett in collaboration with London College of Fashion

If you happen to be either along Regent street, Jermyn street, Sloane Square, Covent Garden or just about anywhere in London where there is a Hackett store then do go and have a look at their latest installation.  In collaboration with B.A.(Hons) Fashion Visual Merchandising students at London College of Fashion the latest installation celebrates the new Rising Stars of our industry.  Each student was challenged to create a personality based on the various customer demographic of the Hackett brand and from The Thinking Man, The Artful Charmer, The Urban Gentleman...the list goes on, the students have created these absolutely brilliant personalities.  Collaborations of course are absolutely of the moment right now and this really does demonstrate the team at Hackett's avant garde thinking and fresh approach to Visual Merchandising and how this can be interpreted.  Brilliant stuff.

Nicole Farhi, London

Recent graduates from the Fda Fashion Retail Branding and Visual Merchandising course at the London College of Fashion have been working with the ever talented Jamie Shouli at Nicole Farhi on a launch scheme for London Fashion week at their brand new gorgeous store here along Conduit st.  This scheme designed by Daniel Purnell who has just graduated from his Foundation degree is just one of  the many of the coolest talents coming out of this incredible hot house of the freshest and newest young designers entering into the visual merchandising industry.  We've showcased some of these talented guys here previously and this is certainly one of the places to watch as these movers and shakers launch into the industry all around the world.

London College of Fashion students win GOLD

We are so pleased to announce that Lai Chi Ho (Tommy) and Wakana Murata, Fashion Retail Branding and Visual Merchandising students at the London College of Fashion have been awarded first prize at the Skill VM competition (the In-store show) at Olympia yesterday.  My colleague Sarah Blackburn (Course Director) and I are very proud of these guys who worked incredibly hard to win the Gold award.  Tommy and Wakana developed a concept for a luxury brands' 'little Nude dress' based  on the exhibition by the House of Martin Margiela and the game of Jenga, and with just four hours to install this scheme, the outcome is quite remarkable.  Each of these tissue boxes were hand made and embossed with the brand logo and strategically placed as if they were about to fall while communicating both the fragility of the merchandise and the tensions of the game.  The judges for the scheme which included the Heads of Visual at Peter Jones and former head of Aquascutum and Jaeger were enormously impressed with these guys who's scheme can be viewed at the Peter Jones site along the Kings Road / Sloane sq. here in London very soon.

Mary Portas presents prizes to students from the London College of Fashion

Pierre and Giles, Viktor and Rolf......you know the combination. Over the past several months, I have had the wonderful privilege of working with the VM design stars of tomorrow at the London College of Fashion. These two students pictured above are from Asia, both speak English as a second language, and both are pictured here with the Queen of VM and Retail Mary Portas with their Silver prize for the National VM awards and their avant-guard design. Both Tommy and Zero entered the VM awards and worked on a concept based in 2060 with references to the 1960's using an imaginary product - the dream pillow. They created a character called David (although, I must say, David looks rather spookily like me if I wore Silver make-up and a Silver suit and the guys do laugh a little knowingly at me when I mentioned this - although I would be hugely flattered if it were me of course). However, 'David' dreams of being a Rock star and the Dream pillow helps him to achieve this. Over the past few months it has been really exciting for myself and my colleague Sarah Bailey (pictured below) the Course Director of the Fda Fashion Retail Branding and Visual Merchandising course at the London College of Fashion to work with these guys. As you can see in the image above, there is already much media interest in these two guys, in fact, they have already been spotted and head hunted by a number of big companies. If you didn't meet them - this was your biggest missed opportunity of 2010. All I can say is................watch this space and you had better find out who their agents are.....soon..! Just remember, you saw it here first.
