Diane Von Furstenberg, London

This brand seem to approach their windows with either a feast or famine strategy.  One minute their windows have a really interesting narrative complete with props and so on and other times they have barely anything at all.  With reference to some of their products the brand have adopted the latter approach this time complete with graphic backdrop with the same design applied to their plinths.

Diane Von Furstenberg, London

We always envy the Meatpacking store for this brand in NYC as they have such huge window spaces to work with and quite incredible schemes which we love to capture and share with you.  In London DVF only have this relatively tiny space although they do manage to pull off some interesting schemes nonetheless.  Currently, with their Breaking News headline, stacks of newspapers and the strap line, "Diane Von Furstenberg, In charge since 1972, for the woman who is ready to start something" is their current scheme at their store along Brook Street here in the centre of it all.  Don't forget we have a huge collection of images on our Instagram, including these, if you want to take a closer look (link below).

Wow, this must be one of the best windows we have seen at this brand in quite some time.  With a huge nod to Lady Liberty complete with pedestals and mannequins wearing crowns.  What is quite difficult to capture in an image is the vinyl on the fenestration here which you can just make out if you look closely - the outline of the face from the famous statue itself.

Just like the sun, there are some schemes which we try not to look directly at but then this is whats happening 'out there' so we feel compelled to show you that not everyone is doing something interesting or dynamic but it is what it is and with the world unravelling this worthy of inclusion anyway.  So this is DVF right now.

If you want to see a good example of a product led scheme then this is one of them.  If you are not sure what this means then essentially the product has informed the concept which surrounds it.  Its not our favourite scheme from this brand (it also looks very similar to Dior right now too) although it is what it is and these windows are very small at this site so we recognise that it is actually very difficult to do much else.

Gravitational spheres in a repetition format against a Red and White backdrop is whats rocking DVF right now.  A simple scheme, but of course the execution is as always (well nearly) perfectly produced.

Diane Von Furstenberg, London

Given the amount of space that this brand have for their windows it really is no mean feat to create a narrative or at least something of interest within them.  We adore this brands NYC store in the meatpacking district with their huge space within which to work but here in London, squeezed into this tiny store the schemes are more miss than hit.  However, that said this is quite a winning scheme using mannequins styles which are particularly difficult to work with.  Simple and fun and much more interesting, plus better quality that some of their previous installations, don't you think?

Diane Von Furstenberg. London

There is a little high pitched squeaky buttock clenching going on when we walk past this brand, although this scheme does actually photograph rather well don't you think?  You're probably wondering why we would even say anything vaguely derogatory in that case?  Well,  all of the 'components' are there, and besides the mannequins appearing as if they are in a police line up it does actually look quite fun.  We do love the cartoon-like back wall in this semi-enclosed space although the dynamics are not quite there and everything is placed as if someone is attempting to fill out the space rather than use it strategically.  That said, whether deliberate or not, we do think that putting the products on the pedestals is good fun; even if they (whoever 'they' are) haven't realised the connotation and denotation of what they have produced.

We're not massive fans of what this brand do here in London but as there is virtually nothing left to show you that is happening right now around town (unless you know otherwise?) therefore our hand is slightly forced.  So here you have it.

Dear VM God, please help this window scheme at DVF, London.  We're not massive fans of the merchandise although there clearly is a market for this stuff, but the scheme?  We are shuddering as we type....at least clean the finger prints on the face mirrors guys?   The scheme is confused, manic and while this is a very difficult space to work in, something simple would work particularly well.  Save the creative schemes for your store in the Meatpacking district in NYC where you have more space to be wonderfully creative?   This isn't working.........we're just telling it like it is.

Diane Von Furstenberg

Go..!..Glisten...!...Give...! is the message at Diane Von Furstenbug right now.  If ever you wanted to do something creative with paper cups but didn't know what, then look no further than DVF.  With their fun structures filling this tiny space, it kind of brought a wry smile to our faces.  We sort of like it, but want to love it.  We don't love it, but does that matter anyway?  We're sure the NYC store which we will include shortly will look even better and have a completely different scheme to delight us - well we hope.

Its such a shame that this store in London only has such a tiny space for its window schemes.  The DVF store in New York is comparatively huge and they always seem to produce some incredible installations.  While we're not a fan of this merchandise we do like that the scheme has been designed around it and enlarged to fill this window.  We have the usual White high gloss mannequins in place that we have seen for quite some time at the various luxury brands, which of course are fine, although a little differentiation would be quite welcome right now.  But anyway, the larger than life jigsaw pieces are a bit of fun although we do hope that they'll invest in a bit of decent LED lighting soon.

I really want to love this brand, but I only ever really just about quite like it - well the London version at least.  Here at DVF, we have  mannequins in a White finish, dressed quite well and placed behind these vinyl key hole forms.  These windows are very difficult to make look good and maybe its time to open up these little puppies and see inside the space a little more?  The guys here are limited with what they can do and while the odd scheme looks great, this space is just too limited to really do this merchandise and brand justice.  Its time to loose the full backed window I feel.  Don't you?

Diane Von Furstenberg, New York

I've seen this store several times on previous visits to New York and they do tend to do some quite impressive installations.  The current scheme here at Diane Von Furstenberg in the Meatpacking district has these printed boxes placed in a pyramidal format.  The mannequins also have the same 'love is life' logo which has been carried out thought the store on fixtures, post it notes and so on.  Of course we saw this kind of printed mannequin technique at Alexander McQueen in London several months ago and again at Louis Vuitton (although those were hand painted).  Still, it is fun scheme at this store which certainly leads the way amongst all of the other stores I've seen from this brand.
