The Pink Bear, London

You may remember this store as the former Victorinox site along Bond street.  Sadly, another casualty of the pandemic (we assume so anyway).  They never really did very much visually so we didn't include them very often although we really never forgave them for including live Fish in their windows in 2012.   With the growing number of empty store units across town many of which have simply covered their windows with blank vinyl, one of two witty ones and then there's this one.  The Pink Bear is not actually a brand but an installation advertising the space as a Pop up.  Great to see that some spaces are generating something visual in their windows while they wait for a new owner.

Fenwick, London

We really do feel for this brand.  They were on the path to looking so good re. their windows and while this scheme certainly isn't the worst out there it does appear to lack the love and care that we know this brand can achieve.  Ok, yes we are in terrible times and money is no doubt very tight however this is their flagship store and we would hope to see something produced at least with some care and style or better still, something clever such as a notice to say that they have no budget to produce a big scheme and just be honest.   Vinyls are also inexpensive.  The main sign for this building also needs a bit of love.  Fick innit.

Versace, London

We have seen some great windows from the brand although only on occasions.  One of their schemes in fact will feature in our new book due out in November this year.  Additionally, these are not our best shots anyway, although to be honest there isn't a lot to select from right now so we cant be choosey.  A lot of brands have gone in to Sale recently so we are even more limited but hopefully this will pick up again soon.

Cartier, London

It's been absolutely ages since we looked at this brand.  Normally we don't tend to see a lot visually from them and Tiffany is our usual go-to.  However, while no jewellery is on show here which makes the scheme look a little vacant it did however enable us to focus on the visual aspects which the brand have employed.  We also did have more images although, the usual, computer crash-like scenario only left us with two usable ones.  Anyway, a lovely scheme at this brand right now which no doubt has gone around the world for you to enjoy.

Dior, London

We're not entirely sure how we feel about this scheme.  Hmmmmm.  We suspect that if this was any other brand we would probably thrown it a cursory glance and moved on.  Whimsical, cartoon, child-like 'stuff' doesn't really do anything for us personally although of course you may love it.  Collaborations do however invigorate the high street and this is one of the more visual schemes out there and while the products of course are beautiful the scheme itself will be one that we will pop into the archives for a while.

Fortnum and Mason, London

Wow, just look at this little beauty.  This has to be one of the best schemes we have seen this year, what a stunning installation.  We love what this brand do anyway and the store itself is just magical.  Whoever produced this is both considerably talented and very patient.  We're guessing a whole team must have been working on this judging by the scale of it.  Everything here appears to have been crafted from paper right down to the fruits, leaves and the products.  You must go and experience this one if you can.

Louis Vuitton, London

We're including this scheme again as the brand appear to have made some tweaks to it and of course it's such a superb example of Visual Merchandising.  The confidence of a brand can usually be indicated by the lack of product in their windows and naturally who else but this brand could be this confident right now.  We just adore the work the team do here.

Coach, London

We have to be honest with you, we're running out of new schemes.  Looking around London at the moment so many stores have closed and empty store units are evident more than ever.  Therefore, there will be a few times this week where we may show you some of the schemes we have shown before although in more detail.  This element, for example is one area of the Coach scheme we overlooked recently and a lovely element it is too.

Kate Spade, London

We were really trying to capture this scheme sensitively.  We can all probably agree that this is not their finest hour re. their scheme however this is what is out there.  This brand have produced some great gems in the past although this is sadly rather poor by comparison.  We are guessing that they either have no VM team or simply no budget at all.  It might have been better to have no scheme at all and dust off the large format graphic in the meantime.

Longchamp, London

There's very little we can mention about this scheme other than its a large format graphic with a couple of mannequins.  We were hoping not to see these kinds of schemes around town but given the circumstances we still find ourselves in we can understand why.  There are so many empty store units here in central London which is slightly worrying so we can't be very picky when it comes to schemes right now.  Or, can we?

Breitling, London

Its been a long time since we saw anything vaguely visual from this brand and for some reason we were surprised to find their store along Regent street.  Interestingly there has been a bit of a shift for luxury brands to move (or add) to their stores from Bond Street to Regent street in recent times, perhaps slightly in line with places such as the Champs Elysees in Paris.  Watch brands with stand alone stores don't tend to do very well (apparently) however this brand clearly is and great to see some visual outputs at their store too.

Cos, London

This is such a moving window to view and if you have the opportunity you should go and see it, even just have a glance.  In collaboration with the brand, the Artist Coco Capitan has created these limited edition T-shirts with 100% of the proceeds going to Kaleidoscope, the LGBT+ trust based here in London.  Do have a look at the Kaleidoscope webpage as this really is a worthy cause which you can find here: https://www.kaleidoscopetrust.com/index.php .

It is really interesting to see that so many brands are coming out (well not literally obviously - now that would be an unexpected turn of events) and celebrating this remarkable time of year in support of the LGBT+ community.  We don't want to kill this long awaited (torturously long to be honest) development of course, however having lived through the 70's, 80's, 90's etc. ourselves we cant help thinking, Where we you then? Well, we know where you were.  You were here but said nothing and did nothing  (and yet so many of the LGBT+ community have worked for you).  This brand didn't exist until 2007 so we can forgive them to a point, however now that it is slightly more cool to support groups who have been and still are on the fringes of society every brand appears to be jumping on Pride as a commercial opportunity (not all of course and this scheme really is for a worthy cause).   We cant help but wonder if the same highlighting of LGBT+ support went into all stores across the country, ya' know in the rougher bits where support is probably needed more rather than in the safe spaces of the big city?  We're doubtful unless you tell us otherwise.  In the meantime, we will welcome you even if you weren't there when we actually needed you to raise awareness and support us but we won't forget either.
