Etro, London

Looking particularly colourful and very grand, Etro really is putting a lot of energy into their schemes right now.  This window at their store along Bond street really does need to be seen for yourself as a still image really doesnt do it justice however; a fantastic mirrored screen forms the background  punctuated with a huge chandelier.  This whole scene is reminiscent of one of those tableaux from an old wax museum such as the Musee Grevin don't you think?

Ocean Liners: Speed and Style, V&A, London

If there is one place here in London to visit then it has to be the Victoria and Albert Museum.  All the glamour you might need encapsulated in just one place.  If you havent seen their latest offering then do go and check out the Ocean Liners: Speed and Style exhibition; as usual this show is superb.  Our lovely friends at www.proportionlondon.com have produced the amazing Art Deco inspired Gold lacquered mannequins for this show which was inspired by the era's extravagant interiors and explores the wardrobes of the rich and famous voyagers.  The show includes, amongst others, Marlene Dietrich's charcoal Christian Dior suit and Lanvin's amazing beaded flapper dress.  This is one show not to be missed, so go on, take the afternoon off and get yourself over to West London and experience this for yourself.

Dior, London

When we saw this installation we immediately thought of the work by the Artist Niki De Saint Phalle and a cursory glance across the internet reveals that it was in fact produced in homage to the her for the launch of Dior's SS18 catwalk.  We've been big fans of De Saint Phalle's work for a long time so its great to come across this.  The catwalk of course was much bigger in the form of a mirrored pavilion by Bureau Batak and consisted of 80,000 mirrored shards.  Staggering.

Selfridges, London

We've been itching to go and have a look at this scheme at Selfridges for a while and of course, as always this fantastic brand with a huge personality never disappoints. Burberry, London

In support of LGBT+ charities, Burberry have just launched their rainbow check /tartan which has also been unveiled during London Fashion Week here in the centre of it all.  This emblem of "optimism and inclusiveness" has been a long time coming but we've finally got there.  Good on you Burberry.  We cant forget however the tireless work of key activist who helped get things to this point of course.

Buttericks, Stockholm

This is our final entry on Stockholm as while we have explored the entire city there isn't that much from a Visual Merchandising perspective for us to share, although there is a lot of inspiration.  This was quite a fun place we found, Buttericks although we didnt have the opportunity to explore the interior however we are guessing from the scheme this is either a party or vintage retailer.  One place that we would recommend exploring however is the H&M homeware store situated along the main street of the city.

Chen Man, Fearless and Fabulous, Stockholm

The Fotografiska here in Stockholm is proving to be a goldmine for inspiration and just look at these incredible images from the artist Chen Man.  Chen Man "is undoubtedly the pioneer in Chinese photography...and has firmly established herself as the most sought-after and certainly highest paid fashion and portrait photographer in China...featuring in leading publications such as Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar,  Cosmopolitan and I-D."  This part of the Fotografiska is so worth a visit if you can as Chen Man's work is quite stunning.

Fotografiska, Stockholm

While we are here in Stockholm, it is of course important to scan a huge variety of areas across the city in order to drill down into the places which make this city so cool.  At the Fotografiska we came across one of their amazing new exhibitions by the artist Nick Veasey.  Veasey works in his X-ray studio, based in a rural area outside of Maidstone, England and has mastered a gaze which can penetrate compact objects through his X-ray technique.  If you need some inspiration then these kinds of places really do invigorate the senses and it was well worth the visit through the snow and freezing weather to this rather isolated exhibition site here in Stockholm.

Ahlens, Stockholm

We are currently looking at the delights of Stockholm for inspiration from a city which seems to be continually being mentioned as the place for some great design.  Here at the fantastic department store Ahlens we came across this installation named 'Clouds' which essentially is a rug made from the remnants from Muji's production line and designed by Studio Brieditis and Evans.  The rug was created on location at the Atelier Gallery Muji in Tokyo in the Autumn of 2017 and is a design project which is ecological, socially focused and actually for sale too.  We have a few more entries from this part of Europe which we will share over the next few days.

If there is one show on our hit list then its this.  If you have been fortunate to visit yourself then we are hugely jealous as this is one of those events of a lifetime that should be seen.  SUBHUMAN, INHUMAN, SUPERHUMAN, an exhibition by the avant garde designer Rick Owens, was kept very quiet (although we did know about it ourselves of course but unable to get there).  Featured here, beyond the amazing products, were the fantastic new figures by our amazing friends at www.proportionlondon.com  In fact they produced an army of a 100 androgynous figures for the show at the Triennale De Milano.   If you feel in need of inspiration then look no further.
