Uniqlo, London

Its quite unusual to see a bit of old school display mixed with a more corporate look but Uniqlo right now, rocking the Summer season have done just that.  Actually, to be fair to this brands' store along Oxford street they do actually do some interesting things.  We did capture their previous scheme although ran out of time to include it here before they changed it.  With their 'Build Your Summer' strap line in Yellow neon, clearly someone here has visited the out of town antiques markets to pick up some of this kit.  Anyway, great to see this brand injecting some energy (and a lot of invisible thread) back onto the high street.

Tory Burch, London

No-one is doing very much on the Visual Merchandising front at the moment although this product-led scheme in all its colour is at least a glimmer of hope that we will come across something exciting over the week ahead.  A nice, and inoffensive scheme from Tory Burch.

Smythson, London

We are rather struggling to make sense of this scheme at Smythson right now.  Of course it contains beautiful materials and products to die for but as its so abstract we cant find much more to say about it.  There are a number of schemes on the high street like this right now and we just wonder whether everyone is trying to be so generic in order to ensure that they dont offend anyone or whether they've just run out of ideas?  Who knows?

Sotheby's, London

We came across this window on our travels earlier this week and while strictly not Visual Merchandising as such we thought that they were interesting enough to include, particularly as these are at Sotheby's the famous auction house and its great see them embracing the importance of an installation to generate interest.  These pieces we believe are from their African Art auction with contributions from various artists.

Colette, Paris

Images Courtesy and Copyright Colette

If you know Colette along the Rue St. Honore in Paris you will know how cool this brand are.  We've never known this store to be empty on the many occasions we have visited and from books to candles and Fashion to Makeup everything is so beautifully selected for the discerning customer.  Havaianas and Colette in conjunction with www.studioxag.com have recently installed this promotion which is almost like a vertical colour wheel of fantastic products.  If you happen to be in Paris any day soon then do some retail worshiping at this amazing store.

Next, London

This is one of those brands that we tend to overlook while on our travels around London, the usual reason for this is that they always switch their window lights off at night time when we are looking so its very difficult to capture these schemes.  The brand once rocked the high street with their revolutionary store, was it store 'X' across the other side of Oxford Circus?  Anyway, the brand still have this location on the corner of Bond street and currently have their SS17 scheme installed.  We're guessing that this is not an easy brand to promote as they probably dont have big budgets but at least they go some way to making an effort and this is always appreciated.

Bottega Veneta, London

Its been a while since we included this brand but only as they haven't done anything very interesting for quite some time.  We've looked at them in places like New York where they seem to make so much effort, but then they have bigger spaces to work with.  That said, just look at them now with a killer installation at their Bond Street store.  With their kind of Google Earth view over a city somewhere sprinkled with a bit of product, they clearly have some new creative direction we guess from someone out there and this is most welcomed.

Ralph Lauren, London

Ralph Lauren seem to be on a bit of an apartment theme recently, albeit representing the kinds of places none, or at least so few of us will ever live in.  Thats aspiration for you.  Naturally, as we would expect the presentation is super slick and so painfully executed that who could help but drool over what these guys do?  In a period of austerity and uncertain times here in the UK, these kinds of spaces and places do have a certain vulgarity about them or are they a beacon of hope?  We guess the latter.

Coach, London

We spotted this scheme at Coach some time ago although it seems to have slipped under our radar here for a while.  We're guessing this scheme is influenced by one of their new products, Rogue 36 (handbag in Suede with Whiplash detail no less, or at least one product from this collection).  Whatever the influence, some great prop Cacti in what appear at least to be produced in Leather.

Dolce and Gabbana, London

One of the few brands using recognizable props (as opposed to an abstract scheme) is Dolce and Gabbana right now.  We're guessing that the references here are SS17 although who knows for sure.  Oars and rubber rings form the backdrop to the product here at their store along Bond street.  There must be a warehouse out there somewhere that supplies this kind of stuff as we do seem to find these kinds of props creeping into suit-type brands at this time of year although of course the quality of these is superb.

Longchamp, London

There's nothing like a bit of metallic to 'lift' a scheme.  Strangely we've noticed that nearly everyone 'out there' on the high street have adopted quite abstract schemes right now which is a bit a shame as these kinds of schemes are quite difficult to describe beyond the obvious.  Still, we have a quality scheme and we love the use of Copper here.

Moncler, London

One of favourite brands for props usually is Moncler.  This is not our favourite scheme ever (not that it matters what we think) from this brand as we usually gasp with delight at their installations although we do love the neon Hockney-esque water backdrop which drew us in.  We miss the fun and narratives out there on the high street but we guess this promotes the season perfectly well.

Burberry, London

With a brand that is so global it is incredibly difficult and of course expensive to install the same scheme across all of the stores and at the same level.  Burberry seem to be applying a quite simple approach to their installations currently and although this is not the most exciting thing we have ever seen it is of course superbly produced.  Ladders in a multitude of colours with a solid colour paneled backdrop is the scheme right now.  A slightly austere installation although perhaps it is reflecting the times ahead.
